Dr. Cindy Marie Guizar, LMT DC
Given name Cindy meaning "light," Marie is French for "Mary" or "star of the sea"
and Guizar (pronounced "gee-sarr") of Mexican origin for "old manor home."
Born in San Francisco, growing up in the mission district, I was taught at an early age the importance of massage therapy. Since my grandmother was a massage therapist, my father would come home with his feet hurting in military boots almost everyday. Not long after graduating from high school, I started massage therapy school, knowing I wanted to get into health care.
A chiropractor taught the anatomy & physiology section in school and gave us the opportunity to get adjusted after class. I was blown away for the first time, by the power of an adjustment.
I felt good for weeks, that it really opened my mind and I felt more alive.
From there, I looked into what was happening to the body and it just made sense that nerves are able to communicate better and blood is able to flow more when the interference of misaligned structures are no longer there. I realized how important it was to have both massage and chiropractic together. I have had the honors of working with professional athletes and the tech industry in California. Now I work with veterans and others in the community of Oregon.
I have had a long, extensive career in massage, since 2003 while going to school for chiropractic. When muscles are relaxed and fascial tissues are broken down, everything is more at ease. Tight muscles pull on bones that create the misalignments within joints. Joints need to be put back into place in order to have systems flow. More blood goes to the brain and body, while decreasing the risk of chronic pain from arthritis. The body is able to function better and heal in this holistic way.
Pain is inevitable and apart of healing and it heals over time. If we are go to deep within healing, it can unfold emotions we may or may not be ready for. This too is healing, and it may not always be easy. Healing is not linear, it is full of ups and downs, it is messy at times, but from it, we shall grow, seeking deeper truths in life.
