Massage

Massage therapy is a manual therapy involving the skilled manipulation of the body’s soft tissues muscles, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue (fascia), and skin using hands, fingers, forearms, and other approved techniques. It isn’t just “pampering”  it’s a therapeutic modality that supports physical and mental well-being and can be tailored to meet specific clinical goals. Massage is supplementary to the chiropractic treatments and is used as part of integrative and rehabilitative healthcare to manage pain, reduce tension, support recovery, and improve overall function.

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Scientific studies and clinical reviews support that massage therapy can produce meaningful health effects in several areas

  • Pain Reduction & Musculoskeletal BenefitsResearch shows massage can reduce pain and improve function for people with musculoskeletal conditions (e.g., shoulder pain, knee osteoarthritis). Other clinical reviews and guideline bodies recognize massage as an option for low back pain relief, especially in the short term.

  •  Muscle Relaxation & Circulation: Massage promotes relaxation of tight muscles and release of tension, which can improve flexibility and reduce stiffness around joints. It also helps increase local blood flow, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to tissues and aiding metabolic waste removal.

  • Stress Reduction & Nervous System Effects: Massage stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps lower stress hormones (like cortisol), slow heart rate, and promote relaxation. Studies have documented reductions in anxiety and improved mood associated with massage in multiple populations.

  • Functional & Wellness Benefits: Improved range of motion and flexibility may result from regular therapeutic massage. Massage can help support recovery after injury, reduce muscle soreness, and contribute to overall wellbeing.

Note: While the evidence for some conditions isn’t uniformly strong, and effectiveness varies by condition and technique, the overall body of research supports massage as a valuable therapeutic tool within a clinical care plan.
